2024 Tax Dates and Deadlines

To help plan for the upcoming tax year

To help you with your end of year planning and tax return preparation, here are some key dates and deadlines to keep in mind for the 2024 tax season. Please bookmark this page for future reference.

Key Dates and Deadlines

Date Key Event
December 27, 2024
  • Final trading day for tax-loss selling. To complete trade settlement for 2024, ensure trades are completed by this date.
December 31, 2024
  • FHSA contribution deadline for 2024: Contribution made by this date can be applied to your 2024 tax return.
  • Final deadline to contribute to your RRSP—if you are turning 71. You must also convert your RRSP to a RRIF by this date.
  • Final date to make charitable donations to include in 2024 tax return.
January 1, 2025
  • RRSP, TFSA and FHSA contribution room resets
  • Limits for the 2025 tax year:
    • RRSP: $32,490
    • TFSA: $7,000
    • FHSA: $8,000
January 30, 2025
  • Deadline to pay interest on income-splitting loans.
March 1, 2025
  • RSP Contribution Deadline for 2024 tax year. Contributions made by this date can be applied to your 2024 tax return.
March 15, 2025
  • First quarterly personal income tax instalment due. Avoid income attribution by settling prescribed-rate loan interest by this date.

Tax Slip Mailing Dates

  • Expect to receive the following tax slips by this date:
    • T4A, T5, T4RSP, T4RIF
    • 2024 RSP Contribution room slip (March to December)
March 31, 2025*
  • Expect to receive the following tax slips by this date:
    • NR4 and T3
    • RSP Contribution slip (first 60 days of 2025)

*Pending the resolution of the Canada Post work action.
