Senior Accountant (Contract—Maternity Leave Coverage)

The Senior Accountant works closely with the Financial Controller along with the rest of the Finance team. The professional is responsible for all aspects of financial management, including maintaining data and accuracy using accounting systems, and supporting the multitude of roles within the Finance team.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Support month-end closing procedures along with quarterly financial statement reporting of the entities within CDSPI
  2. Prepare monthly/quarterly/annual reconciliations and invoicing pertaining to revenue collections and movement within trust and operating banks
  3. Prepare journal entries as required for specified transactions and expense accruals along with inter-company reconciliations
  4. Complete balance sheet reconciliations as required
  5. Take initiative in performing variance analysis for both revenues and expenses
  6. Support the budget, audit and fiscal year end processes
  7. Participate in preparation of pension financial statements
  8. Complete corporate insurance applications and provide supporting documentation as needed
  9. Review and approve journal entries coming from junior team members
  10. Conduct quarterly tax provision and help prepare working documentation for yearly corporate income tax filings
  11. Support Controller & CFO with various ad hoc projects including financial modeling

Qualifications, Skills & Experience:

  • CPA designation
  • Analytical skills and judgement to independently solve problems
  • 5 years progressive experience in the accounting field
  • Financial services and/or insurance experience an asset
  • Experience with Dynamics 365 Business Central (NAV) considered an asset
  • Willingness to embrace change and explore alternatives in a constantly changing environment
  • Ability to build bridges and network across the organization
  • Excellent verbal, written communication, research, and interpersonal skills
  • Advanced computer skills, particularly in Excel

Work Environment:

  • Hybrid model: work from home and at the office
  • Attend CDSPI's Toronto office as needed in accordance with company policy
